  I’m an international radio host—my show is heard on 160 radio stations across the globe—and I’m also a travel writer. I had a wonderful time in Moçambique, and am already working on my article detailing my time in Maputo. I am, however, extremely disappointed in the baggage theft that happened at your Maputo Airport on Tuesday, July 11th while departing on Ethiopian Airlines flight 818 to Addis Ababa at 2:30PM. I checked my bag at the counter at Ethiopian Airlines and by the time I’d reached my destination, my credit card company had left me a voicemail indicating some suspicious charges had taken place. Sure enough, when I opened my suitcase, I discovered that the section of my bag with my receipts and papers had been rifled through and my emergency credit card that I keep in that same pocket was missing. The attempted credit card charges took place in Maputo, so I know the incident took place at your airport. You should be ashamed of your airport and its thieves. I request a formal investigation be launched. I would like answers. Surely you can find out who was handling the baggage during this time period and search for answers. I have already started writing a glowing report on Maputo, but sadly, the thieves at your airport have stained my visit—this is the very first time I’ve had a luggage theft—and I’m going to be sure to be very vocal about it. I do hope to hear back from you and await your solution to this very troubling incident; it’s no doubt happening to other travelers as well. May the thief be discovered, publicized and punished to the maximum. This person leaves a shameful mark on Mozambique.

  Small airport but useful airport. Have heard unconfirmed reports about bribery being alive and well here.

  Of course much bettet than the old airport but the corrupt chaps at the security check was a huge dissappointment as i wouldnt expect such. Not even in nigeria i had such issue. Trying to get some money when u ve peanuts in ur bag

  Maputo International Airport (IATA: MPM, ICAO: FQMA), also known as Lourenço Marques Airport or Mavalane International Airport, is an airport located 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) northwest of the center of Maputo, the largest city and capital of Mozambique. It is the largest airport in Mozambique, and hub for LAM Mozambique Airlines and Kaya Airlines. Quick facts: Passengers, Airport type… Expansion China's Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company has built a new cargo terminal, in what was the starting point of the first phase of a Chinese financed expansion project, with an initial estimated cost of US$75 million.The first phase concluded with the opening of the new international terminal on 15 November 2010. The new terminal has a capacity of 900,000 passengers a year, far from the 60,000 it could hold before. Originally, this modernization project had in mind to benefit from the 2010 FIFA World Cupheld in neighbouring South Africa, but it could not be finished in time. It was, however, ready for the All Africa Games which were held in Maputo in 2011. The project experienced a serious cost overrun, with the builder requesting an additional US$40 to 50 million to complete the work. The second phase entailed the construction of a new domestic terminal where the old terminal stood. The whole plan is for Maputo International Airport to double its capacity from 450,000 to 900,000 per year and help expand tourism in the city and country.   Recently travelled to Maputo from South Africa and back again so did not require a visa, airport is cosy and easy to navigate. Sat at some cafe sipping on 2M beer while waiting for my plane, my only problem was the baggage handler, doesn't seem like you have a choice to push your own trolley there and after he pushed my luggage literally from the door to the chechin counter (which is around 20 meters) he wanted a crapload of money, I could have pushed my own trolley around the airport with no problem but seems like it's their way of creating employment. Paid him R100 which is around 500 MZN
